Brass wedding medal by Pieter van Abeele, Dutch, mid 17th century. These medals were cast as two loose sides and put together with a ring. This is one side, which either means it has been taken apart at some point in its life, or that the happy couple back then could only afford one side. The text reads 'daar twee trouw harten syn in een sietmen de haat en twist vertreen' (where two hearts are joined as one, hatred and argument disappear). A silver example of this medal is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
